About TrigammonX™

A game that began with three people and a two-player board.

In 1979, William “Bill” Bailey and Dennis Angelica began exploring a simple idea: what if three people could play backgammon together? Traditional backgammon was built for two players, so when three people wanted to play, someone had to sit out. Instead of simply squeezing a third player onto an existing board, Bailey and Angelica began developing a new playing field designed around three equal players. That game became Trigammon™.

From Trigammon to TrigammonX

The original Trigammon was developed as a physical tabletop game, built around a distinctive three-sided board and the familiar foundations of backgammon. More than four decades later, the idea entered a new chapter. TrigammonX™ brings the original three-player concept into the digital world, allowing players to experience the game directly in a web browser against friends or computer opponents. The physical game remains Trigammon™. The digital game is TrigammonX™. Both share the same idea that started everything: Backgammon for Three.

More Than Adding Another Player

Introducing a third player changes much more than the shape of the board. Every decision now involves two opponents. A move that puts pressure on one player may create an opportunity for the other, while a defensive decision can change the balance of the entire board. A race can shift quickly as three players compete for position. That interaction between three equal players gives Trigammon its own character while keeping its connection to one of the world’s oldest and most recognised board games.

A New Digital Chapter

TrigammonX is currently being developed as an evolving digital platform. The Public Beta already allows players to experience TrigammonX online, while continued development is expanding the game with stronger computer play, statistics, game analysis, player customisation and learning tools. The TrigammonX Academy is also being developed to help players progress from learning the fundamentals to understanding deeper three-player strategy, probability and game analysis. The goal is not simply to put a board game on a screen, but to continue developing the idea that began in 1979 and explore just how far three-player backgammon can go.
